On a crisp Sunday morning, thousands of runners toed the line of the 19th running of the Walt Disney World® Marathon. With countless hours of training and hundreds of miles conquered, each runner was ready to earn their Mickey medal. And then their magical journey began.
At each mile, runners experienced the most magical running route for which the Walt Disney World® Marathon is known. From running past iconic locations like Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom® Park, Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM at Disney's Hollywood Studios™ and Spaceship Earth at Epcot®, to being cheered on by beloved Disney characters along the way, 26.2 miles never felt so good. At the end, each runner was congratulated with their very own Mickey Medal.
For the 2nd consecutive year, Fredisano Costa of Votorantim, Brazil, was the overall male winner with a time of 2:19:02, despite being challenged through the race by fellow Brazilian Adriano Bastos. Matt Hansley finished in 3rd place. Renee High of Virginia Beach, Virginia won her first title in the women's race, winning with a time of 2:48:35. Emily Kroshus of Boston, MA and Christa Stephens from St Petersburg, FL finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
From the 92 Perfect runners who completed their 19th Walt Disney World Marathon to the first-time Mickey medal recipient, every participant went home with the feeling of accomplishment and memories that will last a lifetime. Congratulations to you all!

On Saturday, January 7, 2012 over 22,000 runners came out to celebrate with Donald Duck, the official conDUCKtor of the Walt Disney World® Half Marathon. It was the 15th running of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and would conclude with a new commemorative Donald Duck Medal.
From start to finish, the half marathon course was filled with memory-making moments. From running past Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom® Park to ending with Spaceship Earth at Epcot®; beloved Disney characters, cheering fans, inspirational music and reminders of classic Disney entertainment moments paved the way for a unforgettable finish. Jose De Morais from Sao Paulo, Brazil, crossed the line to win the Half Marathon for the men in 1:10:12. Rosa Chacha, out of Quito, Ecuador won the women's Half Marathon title with a time of 1:16:43.
After 3.5 hours and a consistent stream of exuberant half-marathoners (more than 5,000 just warming up for Sunday's marathon event as part of the Goofy Challenge), the final racer victoriously crossed the finish line and was awarded their commemorative 15th Anniversary Donald Duck medal. Congratulations Half Marathoners!

In 2012, the Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend was proud to once again welcome the few, the proud, the Goofy! More than 5,000 runDisney fanatics conquered 39.3 miles in two races through four Theme Parks over two days as part of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. Over 155 strong completed their 7th consecutive Goofy Challenge, keeping up their "Perfectly Goofy" streak.
From the Half Marathon "warm-up" run on Saturday to the grueling last few miles of the Marathon on Sunday, we hope every mile was filled with magical memories. Congratulations to all who braved the ultimate test of Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. You're now part of an elite group, so take pride in your Goofy-ness!Chip and Dale, Donald Duck's old adversaries, were on their best scheming chipmunk behavior and teamed up to host the Inaugural Walt Disney World® Marathon Relay. On Sunday, January 8, 2012, 2,000 runners tackled the Walt Disney World Marathon course in teams.
From the start to the relay transition point all the way to the finish, each moment was filled with Disney magic. The first relay team member ran past iconic locations including World Showplace in Epcot® and Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom® Park. The first leg of the relay teams then made the exchange to the second team member who joined the Marathoners onwards to Disney's Animal Kingdom®. Once inside Animal Kingdom®, the second relay team members passed Expedition Everest on their way to the The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM at Disney's Hollywood Studios™. Leaving the Hollywood movie sets behind, runners enjoyed their final push past Spaceship Earth at Epcot® to the finish line where they were rewarded with the Inaugural Chip and Dale medal.
The fastest men's relay team, made up of Rick Cahoon and Brian Tomanek, completed the 26.2 mile journey in 2:42:19. In the women's relay team division, Disney Fanatics finished the inaugural trek in 3:06:21. In the co-ed division Eugene Huang and Melissa Wisner completed the Marathon Relay in 2:51:48.
After successfully conquering their individual 13.1 miles, each relay team member left with a lifetime of memories and their very own Chip and Dale medal. Congratulations to all relay team members!
